Easy Hello

Easy Hello Safety

Short version: we bias towards public, well-lit, low-risk activities. We want you to stay in control. If it doesn't feel right, don't go, or leave.

What Easy Hello is (and isn't)

Easy Hello helps people coordinate turning up to simple local activities. In practice, this usually means joining a WhatsApp group where locals post upcoming catch-ups.

Easy Hello is not a venue, an events operator, or a security service. Most things we point to are run by established organisers.

Public activities only

Our default is public venues and public events.

  • Think pubs, cafés, libraries, community centres, markets.
  • Not private homes or "secret locations".

This is deliberate. It lowers the stakes and makes it easier to know what you're getting into, and to leave whenever you like.

WhatsApp safety and privacy

WhatsApp shows your phone number to other group members. Join only if you're comfortable with that.

Practical tips:

  • Review your WhatsApp privacy settings (profile photo, about, last seen).
  • Don't feel obliged to share personal details.
  • Block and report anyone who behaves badly.

Simple safety guidelines

  • Trust your gut. If something feels off, bail.
  • You can bring a friend. Or come, say hi, then leave.
  • Meet inside the venue, not in dark carparks.
  • Keep your own transport options (so you can leave easily).
  • Don't accept lifts from strangers.
  • Go easy on alcohol if that's part of the venue vibe.

Community norms

We want groups to feel low-pressure and safe.

  • Be kind. No harassment, threats, hate, or persistent creepiness.
  • No doxxing. No pressuring people for personal info.
  • No spam, scams, or aggressive promotion.
  • If someone says "no", that's the end of it.

Hosts may remove people from WhatsApp groups if needed.

Issues or concerns

If something happens that makes you uncomfortable:

  • Leave the situation first.
  • If it's within a WhatsApp group, message the hosts (Rod/Peter) and we'll take it seriously.
  • You can also email us at safety@easyhello.com.
  • If you're in immediate danger, call emergency services (000 in Australia).

One more thing

We're just getting started. We're putting in the obvious guardrails, and we'll improve as we learn. If you spot a gap, tell us.

Easy Hello is a social enterprise founded by Rod Hamilton and Peter Haasz in Naarm (Melbourne, Australia).

We pay our respects to the Traditional Owners and Custodians of this land and waterways, the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people, and to their Elders past and present.
